Collection: Joropo Maracas - Palo Atravesado
Palo atravesado is a distinctive type of joropo maracas from Venezuela where the handle or stick crosses through the gourd. These maracas are played in an up and down motion and the seeds or capachos strike the inside top and bottom of the totumo gourd or can be swirled around the inside of the gourd. These maracas produce a crisp, rhythmic sound essential to joropo music. The palo atravesado design allows for complex, syncopated rhythms characteristic of the joropo tradition, adding a vibrant, percussive layer to the music. These maracas are not just instruments but symbols of Venezuelan cultural heritage and craftsmanship.
