Javier Villanueva
Finished in warm pumpkin orange, this small pair from Javier Villanueva is bright and lively to look at, with the fast, articulate response of a compact gourd.
Hand-crafted by artisan luthiers from totumo gourds grown in the plains of Venezuela and Colombia, these concert-grade maracas for joropo and llanera music pair hand-selected capacho seeds (semillas) with the gourd for the bright, articulate tone the music demands. Turned butternut-wood handles give a balanced feel in the hand. Made in Venezuela — a professional instrument built for performance, not a toy.
- Handmade in Venezuela from a natural totumo gourd
- Hand-selected capacho seeds (semillas) inside for authentic tone
- Turned butternut-wood handles
- Small size · traditional palo atravesado construction
- Finish: pumpkin orange
Good to know — handmade product
Each pair is handmade. Totumo gourds don't grow perfectly round, and slight variations or small marks in the finish are natural to the artisan process — character, not defects.
On palo atravesado models the handle passes through the gourd rather than being fixed to it, so the gourd has a little intentional play — that slight movement is by design and is part of how the maraca resonates.
